Product & Platform Studio
Technology platforms and products. Built with operators alongside engineers.
The Studio designs, builds, and operates the technology layer that powers our partnerships, and deploys as standalone client engagements where the brief is principally a product or platform. Future Lab brings the venture, product, and operating discipline; Sankofa Lab brings product and platform engineering capability alongside.
What the Studio is
Product capability built inside the venture.
The Studio is the product and engineering capability that sits inside our partnerships, and runs as a standalone capability for clients whose brief is principally a product or platform. The work is product-led, not feature-led: the Studio takes accountability for the proposition the technology serves, not just the build.
When it fits
The brief is a product or platform that needs venture-grade product thinking, not just engineering hands. You want the team that designs, builds, and operates it to share accountability for whether it works in market. Generic agency relationships keep underperforming because the proposition and the build are separate conversations.
- Product-led: we build to a proposition, not to a feature list.
- Future Lab leads the venture and product layer; Sankofa Lab's product and platform engineering capability comes alongside.
- Bundled inside Venture Co-Creation; deployed standalone for client product builds.
- The team that builds it stays accountable for whether it operates well.
- Operating support is part of the offer, not an afterthought.
Anatomy of a build
A product organisation that runs as one team.
A typical Studio engagement carries five operating disciplines. Each is staffed and run as a discipline, not a phase: product and engineering operate continuously through discovery, build, and live operation.
Operating disciplines
How it deploys
Two deployment modes.
The Studio runs in two configurations. The mode depends on whether the technology sits inside a venture build or is the principal subject of the engagement.
Bundled
Inside Venture Co-Creation
The Studio is the technical organisation behind a co-created venture. Product, engineering, and operate run as part of the venture team. Sankofa Lab brings the product and platform engineering depth; Future Lab carries the venture and product layer.
Standalone
A client product or platform build
A discrete engagement to design, build, and operate a product or platform for a client. The same product-led standard applies, with a smaller wrapping of Future Lab strategic discipline around delivery led by Sankofa Lab's product and platform engineering capability.
Who does what
Future Lab and Sankofa Lab, operating as one team.
The Studio is the operating expression of one part of the relationship between Future Lab and Sankofa Lab: where Sankofa Lab's product and platform engineering capability comes alongside our venture and product discipline. Two organisations; one accountable team for the work in front of the client.
Future Lab
Venture and product layer
Holds the proposition, product strategy, and operating discipline. Sets the standards the build is held to. Keeps accountability for whether the product works in market, not just whether it ships.
Sankofa Lab
Product and platform engineering
One capability area within the broader Sankofa Lab platform. Carries design, engineering, and live-operate disciplines for the Studio's builds, with senior architects and engineers operating alongside Future Lab's product leadership.
What it produces
A product running in market, and a team that can keep it running.
The Studio is held to operational outcomes. Three patterns recur in how clients describe what they got.
01
A product in operation
Running with real users. Behaving the way the proposition said it should. Held to standards that survive contact with the operating environment, not just the test environment.
02
An operating cadence
A rhythm of release, learning, and iteration that keeps the product improving with the market. Documented and runnable by the team that takes it forward.
03
A clean handover
Where the engagement is finite, an operating team capable of running the product without daily Studio support. Documentation, standards, and a defined transition plan.
Where this shows up
Situations the work has fit.
These are illustrative situations where the Studio has fit the shape of the build. The disciplines are the same; the situation varies. They are not a closed list, and they are not case studies.
Energy distribution venture
The technology platform underneath a new energy-distribution business.
Customer onboarding, metering integration, billing, agent operations and field workflows running on one platform from launch — built so the operating team owns it, extends it, and is not dependent on the original build crew six months in.
Banking distribution platform
Agent orchestration underneath a banking distribution business.
The orchestration layer that routes transactions across thousands of agents, reconciles end-of-day, manages float, and ties into the bank's core. Built as the operating substrate for a new distribution model, not as a project handed back to IT.
Embedded-finance platform
The platform a parent venture distributes through.
The technical substrate for a venture that intends to embed credit, payments or insurance into partner journeys. Built for partner integration from the start, with the policy, identity and reconciliation discipline that financial-services partners require before they will integrate.
Related
Other ways to partner.
If your situation calls for a different mode of engagement, the working session is still the starting point.
Partnership
Venture Co-Creation
Where the technology is inside a venture, the Studio bundles into the build. Future Lab and Sankofa Lab's product and platform engineering co-deliver as one team.

The working session is where we find out whether the Studio is the right fit.
We listen before we recommend. The session helps both sides decide what the build needs to be, and how to deliver it.
